Celebrating Independence in 2021

With our country getting back to a bit of normalcy after over a year of not-so-normal, it’s a great time to truly celebrate our nation’s birthday!  If you plan on throwing a July 4th bash for friends and family this year, here are some fabulous, festive ideas for 4th of July fun: Yard Games: Cornhole anyone? If the weather is cooperating, there are lots of great yard games you can pull out – croquet, ring-toss, bocce ball, horseshoes, or even just a football to toss around. If you have enough people for two teams (and you love a good competition), set up a whiffle ball game where all ages can participate safely. Slip n’ Slide: It’s summer in Alabama, which means it is HOT outside! A cool drenching on a Slip n’Slide will provide the perfect relief from the hot summer sun. Be sure to tell your guests, young and old, to bring swimsuits and towels so they can get their splash on! Water Balloons: Another way to cool off and fulfill your competitive streak – have a water balloon battle!  Set up teams by family or kids against adults and let the battle begin!  You can purchase these Bunch O' Balloons that allow you to fill 100 balloons in 60 seconds! Entertainment for Kids: After playing outside and having fun in the water, have some fun things for kids to play with later in the day. Fourth of July-themed temporary tattoos, stars and stripes pinwheels, sparklers, and glow bracelets are just a few items that will provide hours of fun for kids. If it’s too hot to be outside for long (or if it rains), have some materials for DIY arts and crafts and let the kids decorate for you! 25 Fun and Easy 4th of July Kids' Crafts S’mores Bar: While adults may be enjoying a different kind of bar, both kids and grown-ups will LOVE a s’mores bar!  If you have a fire pit, this is a great option for you. You can have the typical ingredients (graham crackers, Hershey bars and marshmallows) but think out of the box and add some of these fun items: Hershey’s Cookies & Cream bars, dark chocolate, Reese’s Peanut butter cups, chocolate graham crackers, cinnamon graham crackers, and these new marshmallows with chocolate inside! Stuffed Puffs For a salty/sweet snack use saltine crackers or pretzels! Something to keep in mind if you are hosting an outdoor Independence Day Bash: Make sure to provide plenty of sunscreen and bug spray available. The last thing you want is for guests to leave with sunburns and bug bites. However you choose to celebrate the day, we wish you a very HAPPY AND SAFE 4TH OF JULY!
